Ken Dryden went to Cornell ,I reckon . Most of the best ones went to Canadian Junior or straight out of US high school

Joe Nieuwendyk went to Cornell previous to he played in the NHL. He had a long and brilliant NHL career. Is he better than Brian Leetch who went to Boston College? I’d say that these were probably the best to go to college previous to an NHL career. Your pick as to the best.

    Added Note:
From the Edmonton Oiler Dynasty of the 1980′s, I offer Doctor Randy Gregg the fully qualified medical doctor who became an NHL hockey player after med school. Won 5 Stanley cups too.

Well, the award for MVP of NCAAH is the Hobey Baker award, named obviously after Hobey Baker. Baker played hockey at Princeton, and at that time, many teams existing players unruly amounts of money to play, but Hobey always swore he would always play the game because he loved it. At his time at Princeton, he led he led his team to two national titles. Also, during his whole career at Princeton, Baker sat in the penalty box just once. After he graduated, he played for the St. Nicholas Club in Manhattan, the top amateur hockey club in the country (there was no professional American hockey league at the time). He enlisted in the Army in WW1, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre for his services as a pilot. He was killed just after the war, while test-flying a repaired plane. In honor of his skill, perserverence, duty to his country and like of thethe sport, the NCAA named the award given to the NCAAH MVP the Hobey Baker award.

    Hey Mr. Tuna

Even if Dryden is the obvious choice in here, let me offer up Paul Kariya from the U of Maine..

How about coolest dude on the team? George Parros! Princeton grad.

Steve Rucchin was vacant to be doctor, but luckily he played hockey instead. Too terrible he doesn’t play anymore.
There are many smart men in hockey. :)

Well if you mean that went to college at any point in his life, then it would have to be WAYNE GRETZKY! Ya know, he seems to be the greatest to ever live by most values and the fact he earned a degree at some point in his life would mean that he was the best NHL player to go to college!

NOW, if you mean to play in college and go to the NHL… then Christos Kostas Tselios (aka… Chris Chelios) I mean come on… the guy has played since 1981 and been effective at some point in every year he has played (at one point was the gold standard of Defenesemen)! He has played just about every stylishness possible to compensate for youthfulness and age!

Anyway.. I judge the answer you were looking for was THE GREAT ONE!
