    Like it says in the movie the American people were sick of news about terrorists and Soviets invading a new country etc. so this gave us something to be pleased/proud about

    The “miracle” caught up a seriously underrated US team administration to win against a traditionally-strong Russian team. The Cold War was a minor backdrop to the drama.
