Won’t be the Canadiens, they consistently suck.
Washington Capitals. Ovechkin is already doing fantastic and so is Semin. They will do something about a goalie and come from 14th place in the East and be in playoff contention next year.
And I’m saying this as a Lightning fan.
I reckon next season’s vacant to see the Flyers become a dominant threat again. Trust me, this is not based on feelings… I’m from Pittsburgh and the last business I want to see is Philly being excellent…
The Flyers are in basically the same position the Pens were in last year. A lot of their veterans are reaching the end of their ropes or wish to go somewhere else. They keep bringing the young guys up from their AHL team (who faced the Baby Pens quite a bit) who have talent out their rears but just dont really know how to hone it in the NHL. And they made some excellent trades, not to mention a excellent shot in the draft and the hope of some excellent deals in the offseason.
Bolt from the blue- The Philadelphia Flyers. Now they have a goalie they can rely on. Very young forwards and some new guys at the blue line. Coach Stevens is becoming well renowned in Philly.
Worst- New Jersey Devils. They cant continue to win because of Brodeur. They need a stronger team all around.
Much as I absolutely HATE to declare this, the largest improvement next season will come from the Flyers. They are vacant to have oodles of money to spend on free agency. And make no mistake about it, they traded for Biron with the hope that he can entice a couple of his free-agent buddies (named Drury and Briere) to leave the city of Hotwings for the city of Cheesesteaks. And oh yeah, John Stevens is an brilliant coach.
And who will drop off? My guess is Buffalo, see my answer above as to why. Whether they go to the Flyers or somewhere else, Drury and Briere are excellent as gone. The Sabres better get their Cup this year because the window of opportunity is closing quick.
The largest bolt from the blue will be the Rangers. Every home game, 18,200 people come out to see these faint-hearted chokers. That always surprises me.
The Flyers cant be much worse. They can and will improve, but the lack of depth coming from the draft will hinder much hope for rebuilding. Buffalo will drop off with the free agent departures of Briere and Drury at the end of the season. If they make a go to keep both of these guys, they will miss out on other talent coming due to FA. the Flyers will jump at anyone and everyone during FA like the Pens did last year with Recchi, LeClair, Palffy, and Thibault. The Flyers may not jump into the top spot in the Atlantic, but they will improve. Im looking at a 10 seed for Philly and an 8 or 9 seed for Buffalo.
st.louis…………………..if they draft well (with all their 1st round draft picks obtained from other teams) they should be an incredible team if not next year then the year after
I reckon the Blue Jackets will because of the strong goalie rotation of Frederick Norrena and Pascal Leclaire. Norrena, since the all-star break is in the top 5 in every goal maintenance stat, as a back-up! Also, Zherdev, Nash, and Modin should get back into their scoring habits (30+ goals each.)
Honestly, I reckon my team, the Flyers, will bolt from the blue me if they improve next year.
I have not seen anything that suggests to me that there has been a significant change in player development, and talent.
Same ancient Flyers, same ancient results.
SNIDER MUST GO !!!!!
The Kings have an appalling lot of young talent and I reckon they will have a tremendously better record IF (admittedly a huge if) they get the Goaltending straightened out.
The Thrashers are sort of winning their division by default and by virtue of the fact that 3-4 pf their players are having seasons that will be tough to repeat. Look for them to fade a bit next year.
the Flyers and the Blues
I have to say the Chicago Blackhawks.
Their team is always horrible. So they’re getting my pity vote.
i reckon the kings will be a suprise next season
