Goaltenders need the subsequent equipment and it generally goes on in this order. Some people may do it differently, but it’s impossible to do it drastically different.
    1) Cup (most vital piece of equipment!)
    2) Garter belt and socks
    - Some people wear shorts with velco tabs to hold the socks up and a built in cup.
    3) Hockey Pants
    4) Skates
    5) Leg pads
    6) Chest protector
    7) Helmet/mask 8) Gloves

There are several types of saves. Kick save, glove save, blocker save, stick save, etc. Below are a couple of links that are probably a bit more relevant. These contain information about goaltending styles and cover the specific saves.
