Lіkе soccer red card yellow card? Something lіkе thаt? Money punishment exc?
Fights, contrary to the well loved belief, really prevent injuries from happening in hockey. If, for example, players were not allowed to drop the gloves and ‘duke it out’, they would find other ways of doing it: and trust me, a fist doesn’t hurt NEARLY as much as a slash (with a stick). So, when the players are duking it out, letting off steam, the refs want to keep it safe. If you don’t guard your nose, you’ll get clocked, it’s that simple. But when you’re wide open on the ice, there’s no reason for the other player to hit you. The fight is effectively finished.
In NHL they fight lot. So Reffree watches them for long time then they break the fight up untill someone bloody and busted.
That’s dumb reff should break it up
Where they find those reff any way.
Super lol
Two willing combatants and the refs can really do MORE harm by stepping in…..they can take one to the face themselves OR they can get one guys arm tied up and leave his opponent vulnerable…..simpler to let them duke it out and tire themselves out and take their 5 for fighting.
When a player goes down and is at a disadvantage, they will often then just ensure that the player in the position of power is contained….generally fighters will go by a “code” and stop fighting when the other guy is at a disadvantage anyways (Milan Lucic not included).
There is no such rule even if, just the code and the refs taking the opportunity to break it up.
Just a technicality, but in the NHL, a referee can not break up a primary fight. The men who break up the fights are the linesmen.
The referees just sit back and watch and wonder why they would ever watch boxing pay per view when they have the best seat in the house in a hockey game.
Seriously, the men who break up fights are the linesmen, They usually let the players throw a few punches previous to breaking it up to protect themselves.
Referees watch the play to make sure the rest of the players don’t commit penalties, etc. If a secondary fight breaks out, the referee(s) will get caught up and try and break that one up, again, after the players let off some steam punching one another.
Fighting is a penalty, as is roughing
These things are condoned in the NHL; sort of a code of ethics has formed around the fight.
Usually it is done in retaliation for a percieved incorrect, or is done to motivate your mates who are playing lackluster.
Most often you will see combatants of roughly the same size have a go; usually it is agreed upon by both parties even b4 the fight starts. One guy looks at the other “wanna go?” “wanna drop them” or some such verbage.
The 2 square off, drop the gloves, take off the helmets if they have sheilds; and start throwing.
Most fights are just dancing and hugging; some are sweet entertaining. Usually after about 30 seconds the fellas get tired and one will throw the other to the ice, or they will just hug (at which point the Refs step in, after allowing the “boys will be boys” adrenaline to wear off.
Oft times you will see one smack the other on the back or butt after the fight “excellent go”.
if it was a clean go, no 3rd party jumping in or no premeditated penalty starting the fight than usually you will see both men get 5 min penalties for fighting, they go to the box, feel shame and come back to close the game.
