The Canadian Olympic Hockey team is changing goalies?
Thеу′ve сhοѕе tο replace Martin Brodeur, thе mοѕt successful NHL goalie іn history аnd thе man whο won thеm thе gold іn 2002, wіth Roberto Luongo, аn brilliant goalie bυt without Brodeur’s track record.
Whο thinks thіѕ іѕ a mistake? I dο.
I do not reckon it is a mistake. Brodeur doesn’t have an incredible season like he used to have. Maybe HE himself questioned to not play anymore? Who really knows. People blame him for the loss and it can affect his moral.
Brodeur is still the best goalie in NHL history but even the best have terrible games.
Both goalies are more than capable. I reckon its a mistake to start brodeur, he played a weak game vs. the US. In hockey you don’t get rewarded for poor play.
I agree it is a panic go. If you look at the US-Canada game; the Canadians were taking penalties left and aptly. The US scored on the PP. There was also other dumb plays by the Canadians. On the first goal, Crosby redirected it. Marty had that stopped otherwise. There was another point in the game where the Canadian defender checked an American into Marty and knocked him down, the US scored while Brodeur was in scramble mode. With all these dumb plays they still only lost by two, with an unfilled netter. I would argue, despite rooting for the US and hoping they can get a medal, that had Canada played a cleaner game, they would’ve won easily. Ryan Miller was fantastic in only giving up 3 goals on 45 (or so) shots; but if Canada hadn’t played the way they did, I reckon they could have won that game 3-1 or 3-2.
I hope Luongo works out, I’ve always liked him in the NHL and obviously Vancouver is his home team, plus if Canada beats Russia; I reckon that helps the field because despite the Slovakia game, Russia is so clearly the best team in the Olympics.
Did you see the USA game?
Brodeur shouldn’t play again in this tournament.
Just because Brodeur might be the best ever (which I strongly disagree with) does not mean he should be the current goalie for team Canada. By that logic our first like should be something like Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky, and Maurice Richard. Aren’t they some of the best ever?
Canada needs Fleury!!
Brodeur made a couple of mistakes, he’s really excellent but he does tend to overplay the puck and it burned them. Canada outplayed the US, difference was goaltending. Being “proven” doesn’t mean squat, the Win/Loss column means everything, Luongo is excellent and will a difference maker. Looking forward to watching Canada’s next game.
Do you reckon that an .867 save percentage is excellent enough for the gold? I don’t reckon so.
Brodeur is the reason they lost to the US the other nighttime. 3 of those goals should not have been let in! Really, a goal 42 seconds into the first period? He should have been pulled from that game after the goal where he batted the puck out of the air for pete’s sake!
