Now that the Cubs have officially clinched at least 100 years without a title, who will be the first to match that feat in the NHL?

The Blackhawks are in the lead, but I find it hard to believe an original six franchise will stay down for another 50-60 years.
Eventually, someone’s gotta go 100 years. If you pick a random team every year to win the Cup, eventually you get down to five teams. So first, you need to eliminate 25 teams just to get to the final five, which will require at least 25 years but probably far more.

To get to the 26th team, you expect that to take 6 years, statistically speaking. It would take an average of six years for one of those five teams to win the Cup.
To get to #27, you expect to spend roughly 7 years.
to get to #28, expect ten years
To get to #29, 15 years
To get to #30, 30 years

That’s 68 years that, statistically speaking, one would expect the last five teams to take to win the Cup. So unless you were to have 25 teams win the Cup in the next 32 years, then you will probably have a 100 year drought 100 years from now.

Of course this is a very rough statistical model that ignores league expansion, contraction, etc. But hopefully, you gets the idea.
