Is the NHL still a dying league. Has the new system of calling everything taken the fun out of the game?

I still enjoy watching NHL games but it seems to me that the game has been watered down. You know I am a huge Red Wings fan and I reall started watching b ack in the heyday of the Colorado/Detroit rivalry. The passion and all out support of ones teamates seems to be a thing of the past. I will not lie I miss fighting. All season long I have not seen more than two fights. Dammit it is part of the game. If the fans enjoy it and the players still have the willingness and the ability to do it then why does it seem like the NHL leadership has completely tried to eradicate it?

I have watched NHL Hockey since the Origional Six was still around, prided myself on having a fair amount of knowledge of the game, yet ever since these new “Obstruction” rules came into place to speed up the game, all of these phantom penalty calls only slows the game down. I see the most obvious of penalties overlooked and the silly ones called. Where can a fan go to complain about this, as I am almost about to give up watching this sport.

I can possibly keep someone for up to 6 years…maybe 5 years…so I’m thinking long term. who would you want on your team for the long term?

With the AHL Albany River Rats moving to Charlotte and being renamed to the Charlotte Checkers, will there be two Charlotte Checkers teams (an ECHL & an AHL team), will they be merged into one AHL team, or will the ECHL Checkers just dissappear?

How does the minor league hockey system work?

Players get called up from the minor leagues and sent back down just like in baseball. However, some of the minor leagues in hockey are actually considered semi-professional leagues. Were leagues such as the AHL and ECHL established independently of the NHL and they have some sort of transfer agreement for players? How exactly does it work?

Do you think the NHL should eliminate some teams to make the league smaller?

I’ve heard the argument that the NHL should take away some teams, especially those located in the south because hockey is really not a sport that you would play in the south to begin with. What are your thoughts on this? I say that as long as the team is still making enough money to survive, the fans are watching and attending the games then those teams should be able to stay where they are.

Who thinks its ironic that a major league hockey team sucks but its ahl team is awesome?

Let me start off with the flyers, they sucked for a couple of years but there ahl Phantoms have been amazing. it makes no sense at all that one team sucks and the other doesn’t. If anyone agrees this is a mismanagement coming down from the old gm’s days say “you suck”
