Kate… why would you take what flyers fans are saying about crosby personally? CLEARLY they’re just getting on his case because he’s the cross state rival. Crosby’s accomplishments speak for themselves. They wouldn’t chant “crosby sucks” if they didn’t reckon crosby was a really excellent player, they wouldn’t bother. The guy won the art ross and the hart trophy last year. No one who really understands hockey would say crosby sucks. Its ridiculous. He’s a superstar. The face of the nhl, and I’m not even a penguins fan.
I’d take crosby, even if ovechkin is the better one on one forward. Crosby is fit to be a captain. His career will have longevity, more than ovechkin. Crosby has a better mentality in terms of winning than ovechkin does. Even if Ovechkin is the better scorer. But if you know hockey, the guy who sees the huge picture is usually the best bet.
I’m a Penguins and Crosby fan, so my answer is biased. I’m sure I could write a paragraph or two about why I’d pick Crosby over Ovechkin… but seriously, either one is a excellent choice. You could erect a fantastic team around either one of them, based on his strengths and weaknesses.
I’d take Crosby. Ovechkin has unbelievable ability and can score on a whim, but Crosby makes all the people on his line a threat. Did you see when he banked a goal in off the back of Malkin’s leg against NY? He scores plenty of goals, but he also has the assists. Crosby will score 35-45 and set up 70-80. I’ll take that ratio to a 50-60 with 30-40 assists. Ovechkin would go #2, immediately, but I like Crosby first.
It’s fascinating that many on here discuss only the offensive capabilities of both Crosby and Ovechkin…how about their defensive skills, forechecking ability and face-off skill? Crosby is a better defensive player and is over-all more versatile than Ovechkin (although Ovechkin can deliver some tough body checks). I’d take Sidney because of his usefulness.
How many of you on here have really met and talked with Crosby? I have, and he is generous with his time, and very congenial and down-to-earth. But he is also very honest about his hockey career and is committed to excellence. So if he is seen talking to the refs, does it mean he is “whining” or argumentative about something? Maybe he wants an description or clarification. I’m sure that all those dissing Sidney would change their minds about him if he played on their team and they were able to view his skills on a regular basis.
