How would the Latin community respond to the NHL?

Lеt’s ѕау thе NHL introduced hockey tο thе latin communities. Telemundo ѕtаrtеd carrying NHL games іn spanish аnd сlаrіfіеd thе game (іn spanish obviously). Wіth thе similarities οf hockey аnd soccer (minus thе faking thе injuries) dο уου rесkοn іt wουld catch οn?
Lubers, thаt’s a аmυѕіng mental picture!

Every latin friend i have likes it after vacant to see it and being from dallas i have one or two..haha

  • NY Rangers:

I reckon they’d like hockey a lot since it’s a 100x more exciting version of soccer,(which is basically competitive jogging) but I reckon the reason they all get into soccer is because of how cheap it is to play…

Just need a ball to kick around..

I know you’re talking about them WATCHING the NHL, but people seem to like watching professional sports more when it’s a sport THEY also can play.

So I don’t know, maybe they could delight in it..

  • Caps win the cup this year:

Sure there are many illegals near DC where I live. I reckon if they went to a game they would like it because it is a lot more fascinating than soccer or cricket.

I am picturing hundreds of sombreros littering the ice subsequent a Scott Gomez hat trick. Imagine the distance you could get with one of those!

I reckon you would plunk up some moderate interest but it is tough to get people interested in something that they cannot participate in or even go see live. Obviously you do not need to be a hockey player to delight in hockey but to grow a sport in an area, they generally needs to be some availability to the sport aside from television.

Televisa (a Mexican sports tv channel) brocasts every Saturday nighttime home games of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (locally renowned as the “Bees”) granted it’s only CHL but it’s a start ..

Two of the Central Hockey League’s teams with the most passionate and die-hard fans are in border towns. (McAllen with the Killer Bees, and Laredo (two hours or so west, both in Texas) with the Bucks, the latter of whom are coached by former Blackhawk star Terry Ruskowski)

Fantastic link Singh .. I am gonna share that with Desi friends who are huge hockey fans !!

ps. Gomez’s parents were Chicano, therefore I don’t reckon Scott can even denote burrito.

dude they’d be like “what the hell is ice”

I reckon any and every culture can get into hockey if they have door to it. My family is Punjabi (Northern India) and we live in a Punjabi community, and let me tell you, people here like their hockey.
Carrying the games in Spanish would be a fantastic thought as then your incorporating the Latin culture into the game, making the Latino people watching it feel more connected to the game.
If I hadn’t started watching hockey previous to I would have checked out the games solely based on the fact that they were announce in Punjabi.
