Is it possible and legal. Yes. Is it likely to ever happen. No. Has it ever happened. No. There are a some D-1 ACHA players who have went on to some low level minor league hockey, none to my knowledge, have ever played in an NHL game or been drafted.

Sure………….if he’s excellent enough and has a cxhange in direction.

Fantastic hockey players with NHL aspirations would go for the college scholarship from a better University with a better hockey program.

Fantastic hockey players with no desire to play professionally would point out a Division III school, and scouts know that academics come first so really wouldn’t be watching.
