Golfers Play 50 Holes, 50 States, in 50 Days

By Sports KSFY

Two Atlanta golfers are playing 50-public courses, in all 50-states, in 50-days.

Today they made their South Dakota stop in Sioux Falls at Prairie Green. There's a great reason they're doing this.

The golfing journey for Craig Forney and Bill Evans.began June 9th in Vermont and will end July 22nd in Hawaii.

Forney, who's a PGA teaching pro and co-owner of an Atlanta area golf course with Evans, who's a real estate developer, are on the 50 in 50 tour to raise money for awareness of melanoma along with breast and prostate cancer.

Bill Evans "It's chance to give back...without asking for anything in return...that's why we're doing this."

Craig Forney "I think we all know someone who's been affected by cancer...or lost someone to cancer...I've been fortunate in my family...that cancer hasn't affected us...but i'm a Cub Scout leader...and i try and teach the boys to do something good for others."

Tthey travel and live in this bus with a film crew who's making a documentary. And they're doing more to raise awareness for cancer than just playing golf.

Evans "We go to research centers...and treatment centers...we play golf with cancer patients and meet with foundations...so there's a lot to do."

They'll fly to Alaska and Hawaii. And while it's rewarding, it's also a grind.

Forney "It's tough...in our group...we've got two playing golf...and four with our production crew...so we have to set up travel...and keep the clothes clean."

Evans "It's mentally tough...were used to it physically...but it's mentally tough...we meet a lot of people...and go to a lot of golf courses.">>

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fifty golf courses in 50 states in only 50 days.

It is called "The 50 in 50" and it is the brainchild of two Atlanta businessmen.

Their goal is to raise $1 million dollars for cancer research and awareness. They are hoping to do it all through pledged donations.

Sunday, the golfers were in Kansas City. One was under the weather. The other played a round at the Tiffany Greens Golf Course.

"I get tired from day to day but the opportunity to meet cancer survivors and their families and researchers energizes you every morning," PGA Pro Craig Forney said.

The golfers are traveling and sleeping in an RV. They are playing about four hours of golf a day, visiting cancer patients at local hospitals, writing a book and shooting a documentary.

The pair started in Vermont and will wrap up at the end of the month in Hawaii.
