If you don’t support all NHL teams in Canada then you are a traitor! Canada > United States!

The NHL is really very huge on making sure Canada has its honest share of teams. The headquarters of the NHL are in Toronto.

Bettman isn’t the greatest commissioner but there are PLENTY of worse ones out there.

Saying if I don’t support all 23 teams in Canada, then I’m traitor is like saying if I don’t support the American flag blowing to the east, then I’m a traitor, because I want the flag to blow to the west? I know makes no sense… just so.

Also one down, 23 teams left? Which five are you leaving in the United State?

The headquarters of the NHL have been in New York City since Clarence Campbell went them there in 1965 from Montreal. The Toronto office of the NHL (which is where I work) is statistics/scouting and the NHLPA and has 35 employees. Montreal is the Canadian incorporated base for legal and taxation reasons and has about a dozen employees. The rest of the league (John Collins, Gary Bettman, Bill Daly, Colin Campbell, etc) operate out of the offices on the Avenue of the Americas in NYC, and eventually the 35 employees in Toronto will be based there as well.

  • Leafsfan29 loves pugnacity:

Without American corporate sponsor dollars the six Canadian franchises would look like the CFL (marginally relevant, wholly ignored in the vast majority of the world).

I’m Canadian but to reckon that we don’t depend on our neighbours to the south is silly beyond terms.

  • nolan-boy:

this is so dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how many canadian teams? lets see 6?
    EAST:
    Montreal Canadiens
    Toronto Maple Leafs
    Ottawa Senators

    WEST:
    Vancouver Canucks
    Calgary Flames
    Edmonton Oilers

the NHL would be nothing without usa! i am canadian but u dont make any sense. crap eh? crap!get outta here!

Traitor? Traitor to who? You? Oooooo, I’m upset…..

Miles all this despise will eat you up

There has always been American teams in the NHL. Original 6 teams are:

    Montreal Canadians
    Toronto Maple Leafs
    Detroit Red Wings
    New York Rangers
    Boston Bruins
    Chicago Blackhawks

4/6 teams were american so there really isn’t much difference between now and then.

National Hockey league is really a misnomer. National implying the country of origin (Canada) and not the nationality of all NHL’ers.

In no way does this make us CANADIANS traitorous or unpatriotic. What your question or comment effectively does do is make you look like an ignorant toady.

  • Steve J:

Shut up Miles, Canadians despise you, Americans despise you and i’m sure if there are any other nationalities in this section they also despise you.

  • Kyle B:

    Canada suck…

  • someguy_with_an_opinion:

I like hockey and am Canadian, but to say that all NHL teams belong in Canada is ignorant. You sound like a Canadian version of Bettman!

We need strong franchises in the US. What we don’t need is one in Phoenix, (or Atlanta, Nashville). I reckon it should be about 21-9 or 20-10, US-Canada ratio, but there is no way we could have any more than 2-3 more teams in Canada.

Above and beyond, some of the best franchises, (Philly, Detroit,) are in the US, and the league would suffer without cities like those, or Chicago, NY, even Denver.

I gave your “question” a star because I am convinced you are just tiresome to stir things up. Nobody, except for Bettman and the followers of his regime here, is that moronic and anti-hockey. Thanks for the laugh here

  • Vultureman:

Simplest way to do this is to go the canada border to the Mason -Dixon line.

  • ekelly67200:

    BETTMENS A B!+CH

    thats jus wht i reckon

  • BC outside:

    you are stupid, nuff said

  • ......?:

The whole thought is that the NHL is tiresome to keep up and be a well loved sport like the NFL, NBA, and so on. To do this they to bring in many fans as possible and to this they’ve been moving teams to places where the sport can grow, Nashville, Phoenix, Florida, and so on. Canada is a huge business in why the NHL is as huge as it is, but so is parts of the U.S. I mean there are some American fans that like the NHL more then any other sport. You want to get rid of major teams like the Penguins, Bruins, Blackhawks, Flyers, Rangers, Ducks, and the Sharks, yeah have fun getting rid of the Sharks they got a excellent digit of fans. Still you want those teams gone? Why I don’t get it, share the sport.

  • Kayleigh?:

The NHL would not be what it is without the American teams. You reckon it would be what it is now if they had to rely on only having teams in Canada. If you look at the top cities in Canada by populace of urban areas, #10 on the list (Kitchener-Waterloo) doesn’t even have half a million people. Sure support the Canadian teams, but don’t bash the market that carries 80% of the leagues teams.
